What is Ted’s Friends
At TSF, we are firm believers that the power of sport can be harnessed to improve mental wellbeing. We have therefore partnered with the University to bring the Ted’s Friends scheme to Bristol. The scheme will take the form of a network of fully trained ambassadors, working together to improve the overall mental health of their respective sports clubs.
What will you be doing?
As a Ted's Friend, you will be the mental health champion of your club. You will be offered first-class training in mental health first aid and will be brought up to speed with the services that exist at Bristol. Once you are fully trained, you will act as the go-to person for anyone in your club who is struggling with their mental health.
You will have support throughout. There will be a member of staff dedicated to your wellbeing, with whom you will have the opportunity to meet regularly, along with a network of fellow ambassadors. Optional extra training will be delivered on a monthly basis to support your development. We will work with you to decide on which training would be of most benefit to you in your role as it develops.
Training
Before you get up and running, you'll have a formal meeting with TSF trustees to discuss any concerns you might have. You will then have two lots of training:
MHFA - 2 Day Adult Course
The MHFA is a reputable organisation, accredited by the royal society of public health, which delivers training based on extensive research and input from those with lived mental health experience.
In-house Training
In-house start up training from Sport Exercise and Health. The session will cover roles and expectations of a Ted's Friends and highlight the supervision and escalation structures available to you during your time in the role.
